Before a company can begin using barcodes, they must first assign the number that go inside the barcode, called GS1 identification keys. The fist step assigning a GS1 Identification Key is to obtain a GS1 Company Prefix.

The Check Digit Calculator counts the last digit also called check digit for GS1 identyfication keys such as the GTIN or SSCC code. If the number is incorrect, the code cannot be read and for example shops cash register system cannot recognize the product.
